As a rule, I try not to pick favorites. But I’d be lying if I didn’t say that Unhinged was very (VERY) high on my list of favorite boutiques in Salt Lake City. Not only do they carry a unique assortment of clothing, jewelry, home goods, and vintage items, the owner makes it a point to reserve plenty of space in the store for local designers. As if that weren’t enough, Unhinged also knows how to throw a party.
Last month (yes, last month, I’m woefully behind) Unhinged celebrated moving into a bigger, better store location in Sugarhouse by throwing an amazing grand opening party. Never one to go small, in addition to delicious cheese, crackers, sweets, and wine, the owner brought in a magician, a palm reader, a balloon artist and a fortune teller. They definitely know how to draw a crowd.
Because Unhinged is such a essential part of the community, this event felt very much like a housewarming party among friends. People weren’t there just to shop; they were there to mingle and catch up with friends. And by the time we finally left the party near closing time, the crowd had barely diminished. Like I said, Unhinged knows how to bring the community together and throw a party. Check out the slideshow to see more images from the party.
If you didn’t make it to their grand opening, you should definitely stop by during the Sugarhouse Art Walk each month when they host some of the local artists featured in the store.
